The Mid America Science Park (MASP) has added a new course to their green energy training, specifically for area manufacturers. The Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT) and Green Production (GP) course, currently available at no-cost, is open to entry level production workers through front line supervisors.

This National Association of Manufacturing (NAM) endorsed course consists of five online modules of 15 to 18 hours each. Valued at $1,895, the courses are currently being offered at no cost thanks the U.S. Department of Labor State Energy Sector Partnership (SESP) Grant being administered by the Region 10 Workforce Investment Board.

“All MSSC credentials are recognized nationally and are fully portable”, said Justin Westmoreland, MASP Director of Training and Research. “And in addition to technical skills, MSSC training and credentialing addresses cross-functional employability skills, such as communications, teamwork, customer awareness, and workplace conduct.”

Completion of the five online modules and associated assessments will demonstrate the students understanding of the core skills and knowledge in Manufacturing Safety, Quality Practices and Measurement, Manufacturing Production and Processes, Maintenance Awareness, and Green Production. Each area is based on industry-defined, nationally validated skill standards.

“Our region is home to numerous great manufacturers,” said Joe Pearson, MASP Director. “We think it’s great that training of this caliber is available nearby and at no-cost. It’s a win-win for the employers and their employees.”

The first class is scheduled to begin on May 25th and will run through July 20th. Ivy Tech is the training provider, and students must be registered by May 21st. The courses will be repeated, with additional classes beginning in June. To find our more, or to register, visit www.maspark.org/greenenergy.

The outpouring of support for the tornado victims here in southern Indiana has been unbelievable and it’s likely the need for this support will last for months as folks rebuild their lives. Helping those who have suffered enormous loss is our duty as good citizens and our privilege as caring neighbors. And around here we have a history of taking that duty, and privilege, seriously.

The Mid-America Science Park located in Scottsburg, Indiana has established a community based volunteer disaster relief center, and we’re set up to receive items necessary to help in the recovery process. One of our most immediate needs is cash donations to help meet specific requests. For our friends from a distance who wish to support the tornado victims, we want to communicate the best way you can help.

For example, yesterday we received a request for kerosene to use in heaters and lanterns. We were able to obtain a 100 gal fuel tank and several 5 gal containers of kerosene to take out to the community of Nabb, Indiana. The cost to fill the tank was $400. Another need is tarps, ropes and hardware supplies to cover roofs. We will also purchase food to help our volunteers who are coming from throughout the region. Cash donations allow us to quickly and efficiently react to these types of specific requests.

Please consider mailing a cash donation that we can use to meet very specific requests from Scott, Washington, Clark and Jefferson Counties, Indiana. Every dollar is critical, and each donation you can afford to send will go directly to helping our neighbors get back on their feet.

Thank you so much for caring!
Your donations is tax deductible.

Federal Grant Funds Provide Training at No Cost to Area Employers

Scottsburg, IN – The Mid-America Science Park (MASP) launched its Green Energy Training Initiative with a full suite of courses available at no cost to area business owners and their employees in both Indiana and North Central Kentucky.

The courses including Solar Photovoltaics, Geothermal System Installer, LEED Green Associate, Energy Auditors, Building Analysts and more are currently available at no cost thanks to a U.S. Department of Labor State Energy Sector Partnership (SESP) Grant being administered by the Region 10 Workforce Investment Board.

Employees or business owners themselves who successfully complete the courses will upgrade their “Green Energy” job skills, while acquiring valuable credentials associated with the course subjects.

Builders, general contractors, engineering firms, architects, HVAC contractors, plumbers, electricians and others in the construction industry are encouraged to view the course offerings on the MASP web site (www.maspark.org/GreenEnergy )

“In Today’s economy you need something to separate you from the competition,” said MASP Director, Joe Pearson. “This is a great opportunity to give your business a competitive edge and provide your employees with high quality green energy training at no cost.”

Just 30 miles north of Louisville on I65, the MASP officially opened its doors in the Fall of 2011. In addition to state of the art training and research center, the Science Park serves as a business incubator and accelerator as well as a worldwide communications and conference center.

“We are excited to partner with our training provider, Ivy Tech Corporate College,” said Justin Westmoreland, Director of Training and Research at the MASP. “Courses are being offered from February – April, and seats are filling quickly, so be sure to visit our web site and register as soon as possible,” he added.
